Welcome to Rabbit Class

Class Information

Our Teacher is Mrs Ashdown, and our Teaching Assistant is Mrs Conners.

We start each morning with handwriting practice followed by a story, Phonics and then English. After break we have our Guided Reading and Maths. In the afternoon we like to begin with some Maths Fluency followed by our Topic work.

PE days: Rabbits will need to bring in their PE kit every Friday this term. Please note that we will be taking part in Forest School on some Tuesdays in the first half term – a letter has been sent home about this already. It is also recommended that children have a sun hat in school every day.

We will have Forest School during the school year so we will be asking children to bring in a Forest School kit. This is separate to their P.E. kit as they will need practical clothes with long sleeves and long legs to prevent scratches. In the summer we will ask for sun hats and suntan lotion to be worn.

Water bottles should be brought in every day. KS1 are entitled to a school-provided snack, but you can also bring your own in.

Homework

We send home handwriting practice and spelling sheets every Friday to be completed for the next week. After they have been seen by the teacher, we send these back home so that children can practise the spellings.

Please read to a member of your household for at least 10 minutes a day and practise your sounds. (These can be found in the reading journal and at the front of their reading books.)

Games

In Rabbit class we use our iPads on a daily basis to practice our Maths and English skills. You can continue this at home using the following websites:

ICT Games: https://www.ictgames.com/mobilePage/index.html

Teach Your Little Monster: https://www.teachyourmonster.org/account/play

TT Rockstars: https://play.ttrockstars.com/auth

Note – Children will have logins to Teach your Little Monster, TT Rockstars and Google Classroom stuck in their Reading Journals.

Behaviour

We expect every member of Rabbit class to follow our school rules: Calm, Respectful and Safe. We earn Shining Stars for being outstanding during our day, these can be awarded for brilliant behaviour or super work. Once we reach our class target for the term we receive our class reward. In the past we have had movie afternoons, PJ days, water fights and extra playtime.

Summer Term Topics

The children will be learning more about the natural world including finding out about animals and what they eat. In geography lessons, we will also be comparing town and countryside environments and think about what makes two places similar and different. In our DT lessons we will be making moving vehicles
